Parents-We have created a separate photo album for each swimmer on the shutterfly team website.  The albums are named by their graduation year, first name, and last initial.  For example, Emma Hiltner graduates in 2016 (hopefully), her album is 2016 Emma H.  We have placed a single picture in each album as a place holder because we couldn't create the albums without any pictures.

Please feel free to copy pictures from the meet and other event folders into your athlete's album.  Our goal is to help you accumulate pictures over their career.  There are currently no separate folders for the seniors.  We can add those if there is demand for it but with the season almost over it may be kind of difficult for you to build up the album.  Shutterfly says that albums will remain on our shared website until we delete them.  Please let me know if you have any questions or need to know how to get added to the shutterfly site: olhs.swim@gmail.com

Are you an Impact Player?

The swimmers have heard this question quite frequently this year.  The coaching staff is working hard with the swimmers to help them understand how they can make a positive impact on the team.  Within these talks we speak about scoring more points at Districts and which events at Sectionals can help us achieve that. We have a very competitive team for spots this year and the kids are competing daily to earn spots in the line up. The coaches are all very proud of how most of our swimmers have risen to the challenges we & their teammates have placed in front of them.  Many of our kids are proving over and over that they want to make an impact on this team.

2012 District Results:
Girls 7th place, 128 points.
Boys 20th place, 20 points.

The swimmers have also received their power points tables, team attendance rankings (ranked by hours in the water) and a chart of times that have made it on to Districts, scored points at Districts, got on the podium at Districts and qualified on to States in the past year.

Parents, please help us finish this season strong by encouraging your student athletes to stay on top of homework, get plenty of rest and drink lots of water to stay hydrated.  Thanks!

Look For It

We wanted to let you know about a brand new free website designed specifically to assist your high school swimmers with their college analysis and selection process. It consolidates information from hundreds of sources to provide an unmatched tool to evaluate swim performance and the potential to swim in college. We hope you will have your swimmers take a look at LookForIt (www.lookforit.com).

LookForIt compares a swimmer’s best times against the top times of virtually all of the Division I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA colleges in the US with a swim team. You can read about the features if you go to the website and click on “I’m an Athlete”, but one of the most attractive features is a personalized dashboard that reports each college where the athlete might be the #1 (blue), #2 (red), #3 (silver), or close to the #3 swimmer (yellow) in an event at a college based on the comparison of the athlete’s time to each specific college’s times.

Swimmers have a variety of selection criteria to narrow the colleges that appear on their dashboard (like selecting colleges by Division, by geography, etc). The athletes also have access to direct links into the swim and academic websites of virtually every college in the US simply by clicking on the college name or schoolhouse icon. If they enter the history of their times, they will also have access to graphs of their swim time improvement in each event along with an analysis of their times against a variety of time standards including age group standards, junior national/national cuts, and college Division A and B cuts.

In addition, swimmers can summarize all the results from a particular event on their dashboard to highlight by position and Division where their swim times would be competitive. For example, the swimmer can see at a glance those Division I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA colleges where their 100 breast swim times would place them as the #1 swimmer, the #2 swimmer, the #3 swimmer, or close to the #3 swimmer. They can even enter a swim time goal to see how the list of colleges would change if their time were to improve.

This is just a small sample of the power that is now available to your swimmers. There are lots of other great features in LookForIt. Please have your swimmers try it out  – registration and access to these features are free. Just have them go to www.lookforit.com and click on “I’m an Athlete” to get started. You can also find us on Facebook – help us spread the word about LookForIt.

We hope this can save your swimmers a lot of time in their college search process.  Please let us know what your swimmers think about LookForIt, and contact us if you have any suggestions to make the website even better.

Championship Meet Line-ups

As a reminder to parents:

  • We have 4 entries in each individual event (this is not enough for all of our girls to swim).
  • We have one entry in each of the relay events.
  • At sectionals, priority into events is given in the following order: ability to qualify on to States, ability to be an impact player (score at Districts), ability to qualify on to Districts, attendance record, effort at practice, consistency, and in some cases we will look at last years performance or taper record of a swimmer.
  • Relays can be changed at any time.  Swimming a relay at sectionals does not guarantee a swim at Districts, swimming on a relay at Districts does not guarantee a swim at States.
In Ohio, swimmers must qualify on to Districts by being one of the fastest 30 swimmers in their event out of Sectionals from the Central, East & Southeast Districts.  Swimmers qualify on to States by being one of the fastest 24 in the state from the 4 District meets. The top 2 swimmers at each District qualify automatically.  16 swimmers are chose at large based on times.  Our District historically does well, getting 5-8 swimmers on to States in each event.

Saturday Meet Schedule

This Saturday we compete against in the all Olentangy, all Hilliard meet.  The meet will run two heats of each event, allowing us two entries in each event rather than the typical 3 for a dual meet. In addition we will have unlimited entries int he 50 free & 100 free.

Our bus will leave at about 4:30 (specific leave time will be announced at practice on Friday) and the meet starts at 6 pm.  The meet will be held at the Hilliard (Ray Patch) YMCA.  There are no diving boards at the YMCA, thus no diving this week-end.  Wish our divers luck as they are heading to Canton for the Canton Invite on Saturday.

Missing Items

Parents/Swimmers please take a moment to look though your swim bags.  We have several items that have been found & several that have been lost.  This list is beginning to grow.  At meets we tend to pick up caps, goggles, towels and shorts.  It's amazing how many kids do not ever notice they have lost these things.  Missing are two boys team drag suits and one team suit - all three boys are hopeful they have found their way safely back to Powell in someones bag as both facilities have been checked thoroughly to no avail  -so please check for an extra drag suit &/or team suit in your bag!  The team suit is a size 26, one size 28 drag suit & one size 32 drag suit.

Swimmers of the Meet

We're a little behind on recognizing our swimmers of the meet.  Here's the run down from the past several weeks:
Dec. 15 v. Westerville North
Jason Boothman for supporting each and every teammate for every race!
Nicole Kenny who broke 30 in the 50 free for the first time

Jan. 4 v Dublin Coffman
Leona Bently & Jeremy Karr for their performances in the 500 free.  Both swam stellar races against adverse conditions, fighting injury and illness to excel in their races.

Jan 5 v DeSales
Maria Fenters for hitting a best time in both the 200 IM & 500 Free.  Maria had an outstanding meet.
Michael Kivett who broke 30 for the first time in the 50 free and had a great first ever 200 free!

Congrats Patriots!

Andrew Bobbitt Day at BW3

Andrew is working hard to wake up the left side of his body still and has relearned 4-10 words. He will be undergoing a 3rd brain surgery in the early part of January. He is in therapy 10 hours or more a day. He is truly inspirational with his enthusiastic and positive attitude toward beating this.

On Jan 3, this Thursday, BW3s in Powell, Dublin and Polaris are helping to host a fundraiser for Andrew. 10% of all proceeds at all 3 locations will go toward renovating the Bobbitt home to accomodate Andrew's transition home from the hospital later in January.

You do not have to have the attached flyer, just mention Andrew's name or say Team Bobbitt. You can however print out the flyer and pass it around!
Again it's :  Andrew Bobbitt Day!
BW3s - Polaris, Powell and Dublin

Thanks so much! I will be at the Powell location most of the day. What a great way to bring in the new year, right!
